  • Peterborough Youth Orchestra – PYO

Peterborough Youth Orchestra (PYO) allows students to have the opportunity to take part in larger Orchestra and Jazz ensemble performing opportunities. Throughout the year there are a number of workshops and school holiday courses where students come together to explore new and challenging music and to perform in concert.

A great example of what we do is our Large-scale event, ‘The Snowman’ with PYO alongside local professionals, narrator and a school choir (58 students) performed alongside film as part of a festive performance. New Theatre Peterborough hosted with 2 daytime performances (23 schools, 1956 students) followed by a ticketed evening performance (899). This offered a large-scale performance opportunity to higher-grade students whilst inspiring audiences of young people/local community. Howard Blake and ‘The Snowman’ attended.

However, the PYO organisation is not just about the ensembles. There is also an appropriate mix of intense full and sectional rehearsals alongside social activities – a great way to make new friends. PYO events provide further opportunities too, exploring smaller ensemble repertoire or by taking part in a musical workshop or masterclass on topics such as improvisation.
