Chas McDevitt took up the trumpet in his teens, gaining a distinction at Grade 8 and performing in orchestras, brass ensembles, brass bands and his own local jazz ensemble, ‘Lazy Oyster’. He studied Music at the University of York, gaining a BA, before moving into business and training as an accountant, a career he pursued alongside his music for over 20 years.
Over the past six years, Chas has returned to music education, gaining a PGCE and teaching GCSE and KS3 Music in a secondary school before becoming a Visiting Music Teacher in Peterborough. He also plays and teaches piano, guitar and drums. His trumpet playing and teaching have been influenced by Louis Armstrong, Wynton Marsalis and Alison Balsom, whose distinctive styles have helped shape his own approach.
